A Friend Closer Than a Brother

Jesus is a friend who is closer than a brother

To be in His presence is unlike any other.

The broken-hearted are comforted in knowing He's there.

His yoke is so easy and their burdens He will bear.

He hovers over each of us with wings that are wide.

We are never lonely because He walks by our side.

His arms are not shortened and His ears can clearly hear

The cries of His children as He bottles up their tears.

No one is forgotten for His eyes are everywhere.

He is always looking and listening to every prayer.

He stands in the presence of His Father, Jehovah God

He extends His hand of mercy, choosing grace instead of a rod.

Jesus is a Friend who knows

all about you and still loves you.

But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name.
